Epix Picks Up Right Where HBO Left Off

Fans of the Chicago Blackhawks and the Washington Capitals were excited when they heard their teams would play each other in the Winter Classic, not only for the outdoor game that always proves to be exciting but because that meant getting behind the scenes access on HBO’s 24/7.

But HBO had other plans and ultimately cancelled 24/7 leaving fans disappointed they couldn’t get unrestricted access to their team.

Enter Epix, making a deal with the NHL for a four part series leading up to the Winter Classic a deal which proved to be better for fans than the deal with HBO. Now fans could have access to their players for free if they didn’t have the channel, which HBO couldn’t do. Sure it does require streaming the episodes online but the free access means that even more fans of not only the Hawks or Capitals but hockey fans in general could watch.

It truly is uncensored and access to their players off the ice, much like it was with HBO. Fans are granted access to their teams off the ice and given a glimpse into the lives of certain players. Fans get to see the frustration of Jonathan Toews being taken off the ice after that nasty hit in Boston that left him shaken up or learn that Alexander Ovechkin’s mother is a gold medal basketball player for the USSR.

Ultimately it’s must watch TV for hockey fans in preperation for the Winter Classic, probably the biggest game of the year (minus the Stanley Cup finals). So make sure to tune into nhl.com or epix.com Tuesdays at 9/10c to watch the episodes live.
