Serena Lobs Back at Indian Wells CEO

In case you’re not a fan of tennis or just have been engrossed in March Madness the past couple of days, Raymond Moore CEO of Indian Wells made some pretty disgusting comments about the Women’s Tennis Association.

ESPN reported that Moore said that he wanted to come back in his next life as a WTA player and that if he was “If I was a lady player, I’d go down every night on my knees and thank God that Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal were born because they have carried this sport. They really have.” Moore has sense apologized, but in the wake of his comments both Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic have made comments.

Serena Williams, currently ranked number 1 among women’s single players was asked about Moore’s remarks after losing her match this weekend. Emily Shapiro of ABC News reported that Williams said that Moore’s comments were a “disservice” to not only Billie Jean King, but “every woman on this planet that has ever tried to stand up for what they believed in and being proud to be a woman…We as women have come a long way. And we shouldn’t have to drop to our knees at any point.”

To make matters even worst, Novak Djokovic made news Monday morning when he said that the men should fight for more money because more people watch them. Djokovic is reported to have said that prize money should be”fairly distributed” based on “who attracts more attention, spectators and who sells more tickets”. But the women make less money, even though the Women’s final match at the 2015 US Open sold out according to the AP for the first time in tournament history because of one Serena Williams, who was set to make history.

So based on Djokovic’s comments Williams should have received more money than the any other player at the tournament and to use Moore’s words against him, should be thankful that Williams has been as successful as she has been otherwise there wouldn’t be a large following in the United States.

It’s unclear at this time how Moore’s and Djokovic’s comments are going to effect the game of tennis, but hopefully the ATP and WTA can even the playing court so everyone wins.
