Sports Illustrated released an article this morning about the best athletes at every height and it was probably the most ridiculous and un-Sports Illustrated article I have ever read. First I will admit that I actually did read the whole article, but I do it for the blog post ya know? But really being honest, do you really care who the staff at SI think are the best athletes at every single height?
Second, I was unimpressed with the whole concept because I expect publications like Buzzfeed to come out with these types of listicle articles that are literally just a list that really serve no real informative purpose. But being 100% honest, do you really care who the staff at SI think are the best athletes at every single height? I mean I might have be able to get into the article if I knew the criteria for how the athletes were judged. Without it, I have no idea how they managed to pick these athletes so really it just looks like they went around the SI office and showed them pictures saying pick which one you like better.
I think this article really annoyed me because it looks like something a high school student would do for a journalism class to learn how to do a print layout. I expect a lot from SI because they are one the giants in sports media. So really what purpose does this article serve besides trying to compete with Buzzfeed? To which I’d say you can’t really compete with Buzzfeed, so leave them to the listicles and focus on actual articles. And I understand that it’s on the extra mustard site which is supposed to be fun but there has to be other topics to write about that are fun yet tells me something I don’t know right?
What do you guys think? Do you think the article is as ridiculous as I do, or do you just not care about it?
