About the Anthem Protests

During a speech on Friday September 22, 2017 in Huntsville Alabama President Donald Trump made comments calling for National Football League owners to fire the players that protest the National Anthem essentially calling the players S.O.Bs. And while the Presidents’ comments were intended to divide the owners and players, he managed to bring the owners and players together and the President doesn’t seem to understand what the National Anthem protests are really about.

Players aren’t protesting the Anthem to disrespect the men and women who have pledged their lives to defending the freedoms of the United States. NFL Players are protesting the Anthem to stand up against the injustice in our society. They are using their right to peaceful protest to bring awareness to issues many young kids face every day in the America.

I’m proud to be an NFL fan because of the guys like Colin Kaepernick who have chosen to risk their jobs in order to stand up for what they believe in because that means that they are truly passionate about changing the thinking of society. It shows that they understand the enormous platform they have in order to keep the focus onto the social injustice. And kudos to the NFL Commissioner, NFLPA President, and Owners coming out in support of their players’ right to protest because it shows that the owners understand how important the players are. The Steelers can’t fire every single one of their players for staying in the tunnel during the anthem so really did the President really accomplish anything on his agenda in regards to the NFL?

I think that Richard Sherman said it best on The Players Tribune so I’m going to end this post by urging you to click this link and go watch his response to the President’s comments.
