By now you’ve heard that the New England Patriots have revoked Alex Guerrero’s, Tom Brady’s personal doctor, sideline access, his team plane flying privileges, and he’s only allowed to treat Brady in his office at the stadium. And this news made me scratch my head and raised three questions in my noggin.
- Why was Tom Brady’s personal doctor given an office at the stadium?
- Then why was he allowed to fly on the team plane as if he were part of the team’s medical staff?
- Why now revoke his access?
I know that Tom Brady is the most important part of the Patriot’s success but why would the Patriots give his personal doctor such a high level of clearance? Especially because the Patriots are notoriously for avoiding distractions so having Brady’s magician doctor around would definitely create a distraction.
Going off of that point, why was he allowed to ride on the team plane? Why would he even need to travel with the team to begin with? Yes, I understand that he’s a key part into Tom Brady being Tom Brady and being able to play so long at such a high level. But that doesn’t mean that he needs to travel with the team. Brady can follow a regime until he’s back in MA to see him. It leads me to believe that Brady has a lot more privileges than his teammates and is essentially allowed to do whatever he wants because of his success on the field.
And the final question I have regarding this news is why revoke his access now? The Patriots as stated above love to avoid distractions and are always focused on the next game, so why revoke his access now? I’m not saying to let him continue to have access to the team, but just keep everything on the hush hush until the off season when the news will be a small blip on SportsCenter’s news ticker. I mean this news has been all over sports radio the last few days and has been the most asked questions during every press conference or interview when the focus should be on the Bills game this weekend.
I guess I just really want to know what happened to revoke his access? Obviously something big had to happen to act as the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back right? Or am I just making a mountain out of a molehill? We will probably never know what happened to lead to this rare Patriots off-field news, but for a moment the rest of the National Football League was happy that the news focus was on the Patriots instead of the other issues plaguing the league.
