On Friday a bus carrying the Humboldt Broncos, a junior hockey team, collided with a semi truck on a rural road and 15 people lost their lives including the team’s head coach and team captain. When the news of the devastating accident broke the hockey world proved that its a small connected world that supports their fellow players.
On Saturday night in their final regular season game the Chicago Blackhawks and Winnipeg Jets wore Broncos on their name plates to show that they are Broncos. Both teams also donated $25,000 dollars to help the families of the team, matching the same donation from the National Hockey League. The Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers Head Coaches met with the survivors in the hospitals as well.
A gofundme page set up to help the families has over raised over $4.3 million to help those affected, if you would like to help the families you can visit the page here.
While nothing can ever change what happened that fateful night that so many lost their lives, the outpouring of love and condolences from seemingly every corner of the world has been extraordinary. It’s in moments like this that the best of humanity is shown. I would like to send all my love and support to every single person affected by this senseless tragedy and hope that the memory of these 15 beautiful souls lives on.
