Ohio State is currently dealing with allegations for sexual assault and their football head coach is coming off of a suspension after failing to do anything about one of his assistant and their domestic violence issues. So you would think that the athletic department would make sure to not post anything that might offend or even trigger anyone after the mess that has been the last month, nope because they posted the most tone deaf tweet yesterday.
Let’s just say that Twitter had a field day with this tweet, because really given how Urban Meyer stayed silent about Zach Smith this was absolutely the wrong thing to tweet. It basically confirms what everyone knows that the motto of OSU is to stay silent as long as the team is winning.
This is that case that maybe somebody should have paused before this was posted and asked will this bring any negative attention to the program already in the midst of negative news or the university that currently has two sexual assault allegations against them? The answer to that question is yes, it will bring lots of negative attention and thus shouldn’t have been posted.
It’s not surprising that the university hasn’t said anything, instead choosing to leave the content up and not address any of the outrage surrounding it. Which does it really surprise you that they are choosing to ignore how tone deaf they are and instead focus on their ability on the field?
I’m mostly disappointed with the social team for the football team that actually went through with posting this. They should’ve known that this was going to trigger people and offend a lot of people, but again they only care about creating content and not on how said content would affect those that see it. This was one of those moments when I expect more from the social team because they produce content for millions of people across their social channels and have a responsbility to not put out nonsense like this, especially given the climate surrounding their program.
But again their fan base blindly supports Meyer so they probably loved this content and probably shared it to their followers and even put the photo as their phone background.
The moral of this story to all those behind social media channels is be careful what you post because you have no idea how it’s going to affect someone who has to see it.
